Lucknow, India (Metro Rail Today): The Uttar Pradesh cabinet approved the second phase of the Lucknow Metro, known as the Metro-1B East-West Corridor. This corridor, spanning 11.165 kilometers from Charbagh to Vasantkunj, received approval for the Detailed Project Report (DPR) from the state cabinet. The next step involves submitting the DPR to the central government for its endorsement.
The East-West Corridor will establish a vital connection from Charbagh to Vasant Kunj, linking densely populated areas of Lucknow, including Aminabad and Chowk. Acting as a crucial junction, Charbagh Metro Station will serve both the North-South Corridor and the East-West Corridor.
Covering a total length of 11.165 km, the corridor will feature 12 stations. Among these, five will be elevated metro stations, covering a distance of 4.286 km, while the remaining seven will be underground stations, extending over 6.879 km. The estimated cost for this ambitious project is Rs 5,801 crore.
The detailed track layout includes a 6.879 km underground section from Charbagh to Niwaz Ganj, encompassing seven underground stations such as Charbagh, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Aminabad, Pandey Ganj, City Railway Station, Medical College Intersection, and Niwaz Ganj. Subsequently, the route will transition to an elevated track, covering a distance of 4.286 km from Niwaz Ganj to Vasant Kunj. This elevated section will include stations at Thakurganj, Balaganj, Sarfarazganj, Musa Bagh, and Vasant Kunj.
The Lucknow Metro's East-West Corridor, with its approval, aims to contribute to decongesting roads and reducing the carbon footprint in the city. The project underscores the commitment to advancing public transportation infrastructure and addressing the growing connectivity needs of Lucknow.
