The first phase of the project was initially budgeted at ₹6,395 crore. With route extensions and cost escalation, this was later revised to ₹11,609 crores. There were many delays during construction and as a result, there were several postponements. The difficult geological conditions below ground with a mix of soft soil, high groundwater levels, hard granite and large boulders was a major impediment for tunnel boring

Progress So Far

  • 01 Mar 2014: 9.9 km section between Sampige Road – Peenya Industry on Green Line opened.
  • 01 May 2015: 2.5 km section between Peenya Industry – Nagasandra on Green Line opened.
  • 16 Nov 2015: 6.4 km section between Mysore Road – Magadi Road on Purple Line opened.
  • 29 Apr 2016: 4.8 km section between MG Road – Magadi Road on Purple Line opened. 
  • 19 June 2017: 12 km section between Sampige Road – Yelachenahalli on Green Line opened.
