Chennai, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant development for the Chennai Metro Phase 2 project, Bridge and Roof Company (India) Limited has received the Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) for a contract worth ₹268.7 crore. The project involves the design and construction of metro station entry and exit structures integrated with commercial spaces, along with civil, plumbing, E&M, HVAC, and architectural works at Sholinganallur and Thoraipakkam stations.
The contract will be executed within 550 days from the date of the Letter of Award, reflecting CMRL’s push for faster execution of key infrastructure components under its Phase 2 expansion.
Authority: Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL)
Contractor: Bridge and Roof Company (India) Limited
Contract Value: ₹268.7 Crore
Duration: 550 Days
Scope of Work:
Design and construction of entry/exit structures integrated with commercial spaces
Construction of link bridges at Sholinganallur and Thoraipakkam stations

Development of commercial amenities to boost non-farebox revenue for CMRL
CMRL had invited bids for this package earlier this year. The technical bids were opened on July 29, 2025, revealing Bridge and Roof Company as the sole bidder. Subsequently, the financial bids were opened on August 13, followed by a financial evaluation completed on October 31, 2025. The same day, CMRL issued the Letter of Acceptance, officially awarding the contract.
This is the second major contract awarded to Bridge and Roof Company by CMRL in recent months. In October 2025, the firm bagged another ₹250.47 crore contract for the design and construction of 17 entry/exit structures across stations such as Nehru Nagar, Kandanchavadi, Perungudi, Thoraipakkam, Mettukuppam, Okkiyampet, and Karapakkam under Corridor 3 of Chennai Metro Phase 2.
The new contract aligns with CMRL’s vision of integrating commercial infrastructure within metro facilities to enhance commuter convenience while boosting non-farebox revenue streams. These upcoming structures will feature retail spaces, passenger amenities, and dedicated link bridges, making metro stations more accessible and commuter-friendly.
“Transit-oriented property development is a key strategy for sustainable urban growth,” said a CMRL official. “The integration of commercial amenities at metro entry and exit points not only provides convenience but also contributes to the financial sustainability of the metro network.”
Commenting on the development, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said:
“The Chennai Metro Phase 2 continues to set a benchmark for urban transport planning in India. The latest contract awarded to Bridge and Roof Company reflects the city’s commitment to combining infrastructure efficiency with commercial vibrancy. Integrating transit-oriented development is the future of urban mobility — it brings convenience to commuters while ensuring long-term financial viability for metro systems.”
The Chennai Metro Phase 2 project covers a total of 118.9 km across three major corridors —
Corridor 3: Madhavaram to SIPCOT (45.4 km)
Corridor 4: Lighthouse to Poonamallee Bypass (26.1 km)
Corridor 5: Madhavaram to Sholinganallur (47.4 km)
This ambitious expansion will connect Chennai’s key residential, IT, and industrial zones, enhancing the city’s transit network and supporting its “Smart Mobility for All” vision.
