KMRL set to release Metro Rail Model Report for Thiruvananthapuram in September

Thiruvananthapuram, India (Metro Rail Today): Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) is gearing up to unveil the long-awaited Alternative Analysis Report (AAR) for the proposed metro rail project in Thiruvananthapuram. Scheduled for release in mid-September, this report will critically assess the feasibility of implementing either a medium or light Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) for the state capital's metro rail initiative. The project's executing agency, KMRL, is actively reviewing the report's findings.

The AAR, which was concluded a few weeks ago and subsequently submitted to KMRL, takes into account recommendations stemming from a stakeholders' meeting held the previous month. During this meeting, it became evident that the city's traffic infrastructure requires a comprehensive transformation, with the introduction of a novel metro system in the region.

A KMRL official stated, "The AAR is currently undergoing review within KMRL. Upon approval, it will be made public. The report will outline the proposed metro model, and its details will be forwarded to the state government for further deliberation. Following the publication of the AAR, subsequent discussions will finalize crucial aspects such as alignment."

An additional development in the pipeline concerns the tender for the planned flyover at Sreekaryam, a constituent of the metro rail project. This tender is anticipated to be finalized post the release of the AAR report. While the technical assessment of the bids has been completed, the ongoing process entails the financial evaluation of the submitted bids.

During the recent stakeholders' meeting, led by General Education Minister V Sivankutty, the draft Comprehensive Mobility Report (CMP) prepared by Urban Mass Transit Company (UMTC) Limited was discussed. The meeting identified high-demand mobility corridors within the district for the proposed mass rapid transit system.
