Ahmedabad, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant stride towards the expansion of Ahmedabad's metro network, Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (formerly known as Titagrh Wagons Ltd) has clinched a notable contract from the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited (GMRC). The contract, valued at Rs 350 crore, entails the manufacturing of 30 standard gauge rolling stock coaches for the upcoming Phase II of the Amdavad Metro.

The contract specifies a delivery timeline of 94 weeks, reflecting the company's commitment to ensuring timely execution. Titagarh Wagons will be responsible for the design, manufacture, supply, testing, commissioning, and even training of personnel for the 30 standard gauge Rolling Stock cars.
This development follows the global tender launched by GMRC in April 2022, soliciting bids from renowned rolling stock manufacturers worldwide. The intention was to procure the necessary resources for the seamless operation of Phase II of the Ahmedabad Metro Project. The tender garnered attention from international industry players, each vying to contribute their expertise to the city's burgeoning metro infrastructure.
It's noteworthy that this contract is made possible with funding from Agence Française de Développement (AFD), a French public development finance institution.
In retrospect, the successful execution of Phase I of the Ahmedabad Metro was attributed to South Korean firm Hyundai Rotem. They delivered a total of 96 standard gauge rolling stock coaches, equivalent to 32 train sets, at an estimated cost of Rs 1,025 crores.
