New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate a crucial 13km section of the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) on December 29, officials confirmed Thursday. The stretch will connect New Ashok Nagar in Delhi to Sahibabad in Ghaziabad, marking a significant milestone for the National Capital Region (NCR).
Deputy Commissioner of Police (City), Rajesh Kumar, who is also the officiating Additional Commissioner of Police for Ghaziabad, confirmed that PM Modi is expected to attend the inauguration ceremony. This development will pave the way for faster and more efficient connectivity between Delhi and the NCR city of Meerut.
Currently, a 42 km stretch of the RRTS is operational in Uttar Pradesh. The newly inaugurated 13km section is particularly notable as it features Delhi’s first underground RRTS station at Anand Vihar, along with an elevated station at New Ashok Nagar.
“The New Ashok Nagar to Sahibabad section is ready for operation, with safety approvals completed,” an official from the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) stated. The successful launch of this section will be a crucial step towards fully connecting Delhi with Meerut, further enhancing the region’s transit infrastructure.
This expansion is part of the larger RRTS project, which aims to revolutionize transportation across the NCR, offering faster and more reliable travel options for millions of commuters.
