DB RRTS partners with Würth Industrial Services to introduce Eco-Friendly Maintenance innovations

New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant step towards sustainable and future-ready rail operations, DB RRTS Operations India Pvt. Ltd., the official operator of the Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), has joined hands with Würth Industrial Services India to deploy cutting-edge, eco-friendly maintenance technologies.

This Indo-German collaboration marks the first-ever use of the Würth REFILLO®mat aerosol refill system in the Indian rail sector, setting new benchmarks in operational efficiency, workplace safety, and environmental responsibility. The innovation has been installed at the Duhai Depot, the operational hub of India’s first semi-high-speed RRTS corridor, developed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC).

The partnership reflects the shared commitment of Germany and India towards advanced engineering and sustainable mobility solutions. The REFILLO®mat system replaces single-use aerosol cans with reusable ones, significantly reducing hazardous waste, cutting packaging requirements, and ensuring safer handling of maintenance chemicals.

Speaking on the development, Mr. Niko Warbanoff, CEO, DB E.C.O. Group & DB International Operations, said, "This collaboration with Würth is not just about tools—it’s about building smarter, sustainable systems for future-ready railways. It reflects our shared German legacy of engineering excellence and commitment to India’s Make-in-India and sustainability goals. I am very happy and proud about the partnership with Würth.”

Adding an industry perspective, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said, “This initiative is a fine example of how global partnerships can bring world-class, sustainable practices to India’s rail sector. By combining German engineering expertise with India’s ambitious transit vision, DB RRTS and Würth are not only enhancing operational efficiency but also setting a new sustainability benchmark for future urban mobility projects.

Under this partnership, DB RRTS will introduce several Würth innovations to modernize and optimize depot-level operations, including:

  • REFILLO®mat Aerosol Refill System – First-of-its-kind in Indian railways; reduces environmental impact while improving workplace safety.

  • Automated Inventory Management – Ensures reliable supply chain and timely access to critical maintenance components.

  • Modular Storage Solutions (ORSY®mat) – Improves organization and space utilization within depots.

  • Würth System Bus – A mobile showroom enabling hands-on training and familiarization with new tools and systems.

These systems are expected to streamline maintenance, extend asset lifespan, and minimize downtime, supporting NCRTC’s vision of a commuter-focused, technologically advanced rail network.

The official inauguration of the REFILLO®mat at the Duhai Depot was attended by key industry leaders, including Mr. Rahul Gupta (MD, Würth Industrial Services India), Mr. Praveen Goyal (CEO, DB RRTS), Mr. Michael Kortüm (COO, DB RRTS), and Mr. Anil Kumar Agarwal (CMO, DB RRTS), alongside senior officials from both companies.

DB RRTS Operations India Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn International Operations, is the Operations & Maintenance partner for the Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut Namo Bharat RRTS corridor. Leveraging Deutsche Bahn’s global expertise, the company focuses on delivering safe, efficient, and environmentally sustainable transit solutions tailored for India.
